Case Study: Far Out Toys

Background:

Founded in 2017, Far Out Toys has rapidly emerged as a dynamic player in the global toy market. With comprehensive manufacturing, distribution, and marketing capabilities, the company specializes in introducing innovative brands across various toy categories such as vehicles, arts & crafts, games, licensed collectibles, electronic toys, and fashion dolls.

Challenge:

As a relatively new entrant in the toy industry, Far Out Toys sought to establish robust brand awareness and credibility. McKendall Communications (McKC) was enlisted to develop and execute a strategic media relations program to support the marketing objectives for their diverse portfolio of brands.

Strategy:

We crafted a compelling narrative highlighting Far Out Toys’ commitment to delivering creative and engaging toys for children of all ages. The strategic approach included:

  • Media Outreach: Leveraging our extensive media relationships across parenting, toy industry, and general consumer media to secure targeted placements. We also capitalized on seasonal opportunities such as outdoor summer toys and holiday gift guides to maximize media coverage and consumer interest.
  • Tailored Messaging: To enhance credibility, developing customized press releases and pitch letters emphasizing Far Out Toys’ product features, unique selling points, and the executive team’s background.
  • Event Support:  Supplementing existing Far Out Toys’ social media events with traditional media outreach.
  • Influencer Engagement: Engaging parenting bloggers, toy reviewers, and relevant influencers to amplify reach and foster positive reviews and endorsements.
  • Product Sampling: Distributing product samples to media outlets upon request to facilitate hands-on reviews and coverage.

Additionally, we organized virtual media tours via Zoom to provide exclusive previews of key product launches, with Far Out Toys’ executives leading the sessions and McKC managing logistics and execution. The agency also coordinated media relations efforts for major trade shows, notably New York Toy Fair and San Diego Comic-Con, securing appointments with attending media and facilitating booth tours to showcase new products.

Results:

Since 2019, McKC’s media relations efforts have significantly elevated Far Out Toys’ brand visibility and credibility:

  • Media Placements: Secured placements in top-tier parenting, toy trade, business, and broadcast media outlets, enhancing brand recognition and consumer trust.
  • Influencer Endorsements: Garnered positive reviews and endorsements from respected influencers, bloggers, and industry experts, further validating Far Out Toys’ products in the market.

Through strategic storytelling, targeted outreach, and effective media engagement, we successfully positioned Far Out Toys as a competitive and innovative player in the toy industry, paving the way for continued growth and market expansion.
